De film vertelt het verhaal van Ruben. Hij neemt het leven niet al te serieus, en de liefde al helemaal niet. Als hij na de onverwachte dood van een scharrel de vader blijkt te zijn van haar acht maanden oude zoon, staat zijn leven compleet op zijn kop. Zonder enige voorbereiding heeft Ruben van de ene op de andere dag de zorg over baby Oscar. Alsof dat nog niet ingewikkeld genoeg is, besluit zijn losbollige nieuwe schoonzus Lucy (Hanna van Vliet) dat ook zij voor haar neefje wil zorgen.
SESSION is te zien in de slotscene van de film, waar de bandleden samen de band van Ruben vormen. Samen spelen ze een nummer voor alle aanwezigen, dat net als de rest van de film muziek is geschreven door David Middelhof.
